The Religious Flexibility (and heresy) of Ronald McDonald

Earlier this evening Joe LaRoy and I walked around Bangkok and went into a McDonald's just to look. Greeting us at the door was this statue of Ronald McDonald. Apparently, Micky D has become a Buddhist. I thought he was a faithless thing. Surely, not a follower of Jesus, after I watched the flesh-scandalous "Super-Size Me."
That upward-and-outward-mobility message is the opposite of Jesus' upside-down kingdom.

I am certain R McD's faith is shallow. The second of the Buddha's 4 Noble Truths is: the cause of all suffering is human craving. The cry of the true Buddhist is not "Super Size me!", not even "Downsize me!", but "Eliminate me!" There's Buddhist heresy growing here in Bangkok...

(Yes, I understand the importance of cultural relevance in marketing.)
