Entering God's Rest (Tomorrow Morning at Redeemer)

Redeemer sanctuary

Tomorrow morning at Redeemer I'll be preaching out of Hebrews 4:1-11, on "Entering God's Rest." I will:

  • Define "God's rest" as a position, not a psychological state of mind.
  • I'll especially use Old Testament scholar John Walton's The Lost World of Genesis 1 to understand the OT idea of "God's rest."
  • The "rest" of God will be seen, not in some couch-potato-vacation-from-life sense, but as a very dynamic position and spiritual condition. To "enter God's rest" is to be active, in a very missional, focused way.
  • As a result of understanding what Hebrews means by "God's rest" things will get very exciting and very encouraging in the sanctuary!
