Jesus' "As Usual" Prayer Life (Prayer Summer)

Linda, sitting in front of Michigan State University's Art Museum

As we begin Prayer Summer 2014 I am challenging you to pray 30-60 minutes a day, 5 days a week, from now through August. My hope and prayer is that this will help you gain a life of praying, lasting until your last breath on earth.

My hope is that praying for you will be an "as usual" thing, a "customary" thing. Like it was for Jesus.

39Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed...

Luke 22:39-41

Praying, for Jesus, was his modus operandi, his operating mode.

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Luke 15:16

What did Jesus' common "as usual" prayer life look like? I see it like this.

  1. Jesus was a habitual pray-er.
  2. Jesus found apart-places where he engaged in solitary praying.
  3. Jesus prayed to find out what the Father wanted him to do.
If I am a follower of Jesus, I will do the same.
