Praying People Abandon Themselves to the Will of God (PrayerLife)

Green Lake, Wisconsin
A praying person abandons themselves to the will of God. If this is not true then "prayer" is but a monologue led by oneself, and not real prayer.

Henrie Nouwen writes: "Prayer is the act by which we divest ourselves of all false belongings and become free to belong to God and God alone." (The Only Necessary Thing: Living a Prayerful Life, 39)

Real prayer seeks God, not self. "Self" is what the praying person wants to be rid of.

The beauty of this is that, once we set our own plans and egos aside and release ourselves into the being of God, we get found by God. Here is where the true self emerges. We finally find who we are and were always meant to be.
