I discovered Thurman in the early 1980s. I was doing (for 2 years!) the excellent devotional book A Guide to Prayer for Ministers and Other Servants. This prayer guide contains beautiful quotes relevant to prayer and spiritual formation. Some of them were written by a person I had not heard of. "Who is Howard Thurman?" I had to find out, since it was obvious that his writing came from a very deep spiritual well.

I began, yesterday, my 40-Day Journey with Howard Thurman.
