On Not Having Ears to Hear

Monroe county barn

I gave the message at a funeral this past week. I was thankful that the family told me they appreciated the words I had to say. A few even asked where our church was located, and that they might drop in some time.

As I was standing in the funeral home after the service a very kind elderly man came up and shook my hand.

"Very good job" he said with a large, genuine smile.

Thank you.

"Of course," he added, "I forgot to put in my hearing aid and didn't hear a word you said."

He was smiling as he told me this. I smiled and thanked him again.
