3 Steps to a Better Cup of Coffee

My grandmother had tears in her eyes when I began drinking coffee at age 21. I come from a long line of Finnish coffee drinkers. In my grandmother's eyes I had finally joined the family when I confessed java.

Today's New York Times has a nice article, "3 Steps to Brewing a Better Cup of Coffee." Step 1 - Grind your beans. I do.

Step 2 - Use a scale, not as scoop. I use neither. I know what I'm doing after decades of coffee making. Experience breeds intuition.

Step 3 - Graduate to a better brewer. I did. The article recommends the Bonavita BV1900TS. Sounds like a sports car, right? The Bonavita is recommended by the Specialty Coffee Association of America. The SCAA is the coffee equivalent of Harvard. If you want a graduate degree as a barista see The Academy of Coffee Excellence, which believes in the Bonavita.

I love this coffee maker! Just push one button and the brewing begins. I'm holding a cup right now, of Lobster Butter Love coffee from Ann Arbor's #1 rated coffee place, RoosRoast Coffee
